‘’Lord you know everything , you know that I love you.’’
John 21 : 17
In this Gospel scene Jesus is risen and gives his apostles a surprise visit. He also gives them a surprise catch of fish after their spending all night catching nothing. After breakfast Jesus asks Peter in front of the others ’’ Do you love me?’’ On being asked the third time Peter replies ’’ Lord you know everything, you know that I love you’’. Peter, being conscious of his former denials realises that Jesus knows the full extent of his love for him and accepts him in all his weakness.
Prayer
Prayer : Peter’s prayer is completely simple and straightforward. Lord give me simplicity and honesty in prayer. Help me to keep my gaze fixed on you when I say I love you. With Peter I acknowledge you know everything. You see into the depths of my heart and nothing is hidden from you. You surround me with your love and I am thankful for your love. Increase my trust in you at all times. Open my heart ever more to your abundant and infinite love.
