A Member of the Secular Institute tells her story
I'm a very happy, contented and fulfilled member of the Holy Family Secular Institute. We are a small group of women, scattered throughout the world in seventeen different countries. Though we come from different cultural backgrounds, we are all united in the style of life we have been called to. We live according to the evangelical counsels of obedience, chastity and poverty. It is a life fully committed in the world as lay persons with vows, regulated by the Constitutions proper to our Institute and according to the Holy Family spirit. Our lives are very ordinary, like those of Jesus, Mary and Joseph at Nazareth. We live them out in whatever social milieu God places us, but without belonging to any specific community or undertaking any corporate work. It is a discreet vocation and we only tell those whom we choose to, so that we have more freedom of presence in our action. We can live completely alone or with our family: either way we are always in communion with our Holy Family Religious Sisters, Priests and Lay Associates. flowers

I live alone and have worked in education at home and abroad as a lay person in mission territory for several years of my life. I am always conscious of the Family dimension wherever I am, as I endeavour to portray the spirit of the Holy House of Nazareth just here and now. At present I am involved with the marginalised in my own society, and give many hours as a volunteer to social justice and development education issues. The Eucharist is central to my life as also is the time of prayer. Our national and international meetings are joyful occasions to meet up with the other members of the Secular Institute and sometimes with the other members of the large Family.
