Fourth Week of Lent

March 22nd, 2012

"Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good."
Psalm 106 v.1

(Psalm106)
Lord remember us,
For the love you bear your people.
Our ancestors made a calf at Horeb and worshiped a cast image.
They exchanged the glory of God for the image of an ox that eats grass.
They forgot God, their Saviour, who had done great things in Egypt, wondrous works in the land of Ham, and awesome deeds by the red sea.

This is an historical psalm.

There is urgency to praise God and a prayer for Israel’s posterity. God had done much for the people and they had turned away from him worshipping false Gods. There is also the spirit of lament, Israel’s disobedience and faithless. God did so much for his people. There is hope for salvation. (Jer. 31) “I will place my law within them, and I will write it upon their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people, says the Lord.”

Prayer

Lord, let our hearts seek you and rejoice. May we turn to you, constantly seek your face. Amen
