Prayer of the Day

Feast of All Souls

November 2nd, 2015
"Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted." Matthew 5 : 4
raising-of jairus-daughter

This second Beatitude is cited by Jesus from the Prophet Isaiah; “He has sent me to comfort all who mourn.”  The Evangelist,  Luke,  referring to the same passage,  writes; “Blessed are you who are now weeping,  comforting those who mourn.”  Those who are weeping is doubtless one of the reasons for Christ’s Incarnation.  Jesus comforts the widow of Naim.  During His last supper with His disciples,  He tells them;  “Do not let your hearts be troubled.  I will come back again and take you to myself.”   Seeing Jairus and his relatives weeping over the death of his daughter,  Jesus brings the young girl back to life.  Indeed,  He is the consolation of Israel.

“You changed my mourning into dancing,  you took off my sack cloth and clothed me with gladness.  With my whole being I sing endless praise to you.  O Lord my God,  forever will I give you thanks.”

We pray for our beloved dead, may the angels lead them to paradise. We pray also for those who mourn, may they find comfort in God's love. Amen
