Prayer of the DayJune 7th, 2016
The reflection today is on salt and light for the world. When Jesus sits down to proclaim ‘The Sermon on the Mount’ He is surrounded by His disciples, fishermen and ordinary men living just ordinary lives before He called them. The condition with which Jesus pronounces as ‘Blessed’ surely applies to them. They are a poor, hungry, and disadvantaged lot. To this day salt is used to preserve food and to enhance its flavour. One luminous figure, a light, in this century is Mother Teresa of Calcutta. How was it possible that a small, frail woman inspired people, Christians and non Christians alike.
May the Holy Spirit keep us humble and kind. We rejoice in God's revealed word and seek to share it with others. Lord hear us. Amen
