Prayer of the Day

Ash Wednesday – Lent Begins

February 10th, 2016
"Return to the Lord your God for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and relents from punishing." Joel 2 : 13

Today’s Reading (Corinthians 2 : 5) “We entreat you on behalf of Christ,  be reconciled to God who made Jesus atone for sin tho he committed no sin,  so that sinners become the righteousness of God.  We urge you not to accept the grace of God in vain.”

Today’s Gospel (Matthew 6 : 1) Jesus’ words;  1.  “Be careful not to parade your good works before everyone to get praised for them.”   2. “When you pray,  prepare yourself,  plan quietly about what? when? where? you will pray.”  Jesus says; “pray to your heavenly Father in spirit and in truth.  Close the door to your mind and heart and speak to your Father in secret where God is in that quiet place and time that is best for you.”    3.  When you fast,  think first,  plan about the programme that would be best for you.   What is not best for you,  think about how you employ your time?  Go to the diary and challenge yourself;  ask yourself truthfully about the works of mercy,  you will find them on the prayer card for this;  Year of Mercy.   Pray the “Our Father.”

Lord help us to resist temptation by our Lenten works of charity and penance, by my thoughts, words, actions and sufferings. United in our prayers to all the people of God in Jesus' name, we will do our best to persevere. Amen
