""It is not those who say to me ‘Lord, Lord’ who will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the person who does the will of my Father in heaven."" Matthew 7 : 21

In today’s Gospel Jesus is not talking to atheists or agnostics.  He is talking to people who think that they are on the right road when in fact they haven’t even begun the journey of true discipleship.  Jesus wants us to not only listen to his word but to put it into practice.  The message of Jesus is one of humility and charity.  He teaches transformation of the inner person.  Love is to become our motivation.  The Beatitudes are his blueprint for Christian living.  Jesus wants us to be ‘poor in spirit’ in other words humble.  Humility is the realization that all our gifts and blessings come from God.  To have poverty of spirit means to be completely empty and open to the Word of God.  When we are humble we are able to accept our faults and failings, repent and allow the grace of God to lead us to conversion.  Jesus wants us to be ‘pure in heart’ which means being pure of all self-seeking desires.  He wants us to be filled with the blessings of peace so that we can communicate it to those who need it.  For some people following Jesus may even mean persecution and we must be ready to accept it in whatever form or shape it comes in.

Prayer Lord Jesus give us the grace to begin our journey of true discipleship today and to be humble enough to begin anew every day. Amen
