Prayer of the Day
Daily PrayerSeptember 10th, 2015
In this reading, Jesus gives a blue-print of Christianity. His advice on relationships, particularly difficult ones, is today considered the best advice psychologically to give to anyone who has been ill-treated or been abused in any way. “Love your enemies” –“Do good to those who hate you.” Not very palatable, far from easy, and difficult to sustain, but in the long run the only way to deal with those who have no regard for others’ welfare. His words were not empty platitudes as we see in his own suffering and death, when his last words from the Cross were of forgiveness.
God Our Father, teach us always to respect others, their freedom, their beliefs and principles. Help us always to take the first step to forgive others if they offend us, and to wish them well. Amen
