Prayer of the Day
Daily PrayerJuly 17th, 2015
This is the Lord speaking to Moses prior to the Exodus of the children of Israel from Egypt. Eventually Pharaoh was forced to let the Israelites go for the tenth plague brought death to the firstborn of the Egyptians. The angel of death passes over the houses of the Israelites seeing the blood of the Paschal Lamb smeared on their doors. Knowing the Passover ritual gives us a better understanding of the Mass and what it means to us in our Christian lives. Jesus is the Paschal Lamb sacrificed for us on the Cross, foreshadowed by the blood of the lamb spilt on the doorposts of the Israelites. This is the Lamb who was slain for us on Calvary. This is the same Lamb who became incarnate, not just two thousand years ago in Bethlehem but fourteen billion years ago at the time of Creation, the moment we call “Big Bang.” At the appointed time two thousand years ago after that long infancy the human Christ was born. St. John Paul II tells us that even if the Eucharist (the Mass) is celebrated on the humblest Altar in the world it is at the same time being celebrated on the Alter of the World. It unites heaven and earth because it permeates all creation. Every Mass is therefore a cosmic event – a worldwide event for God is everywhere.
"May our all powerful God bless us, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen
