Prayer of the Day
Daily Prayer

Today’s gospel continues the image of servants waiting for the master’s return. Jesus himself is the master of the house, his apostles are the stewards and his disciples the other servants. Jesus is still the head of his Church even though he is not visibly present. He expects the leaders (stewards) of the Church to remain faithful to him. Much will be expected from these leaders because “they have been given a great deal in trust.” Much will also be expected of the disciple (servants) because each one of us has been given a unique mission or task by God. We are responsible for the gifts we have been given to carry out this mission. To give of ourselves totally in whatever way God requires of us is our only fulfilment. There is no lasting happiness in wasting our gifts and talents in self-indulgence.
