Prayer of the Day
Daily PrayerMarch 13th, 2015
In to-day’s Gospel Jesus replies to a question one of the Scribes put to him; “Listen, Israel, this is the first, the Lord our God is the one Lord and you must love the Lord your God with your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this, you must love your neighbour as yourself.” (Mark 12 : 28 – 34) This man had caught the intent of God’s law often stressed in the Old Testament laws – that true obedience comes from the heart, because all the Old Testament laws lead to Jesus himself. The Scribe’s next step was faith in Christ; this however was the most difficult step to take. Forgiveness begins when we see the destructiveness and the futility of life without God.
Jesus quoted Psalm 110 v.1 to show that David considered the Messiah to be his ‘Lord and not Son.’ “The Lord says to my Lord” – the credentials for the Messiah, because in the Old Testament religious leaders did not understand that the Messiah would be far more than a human descendant of David – he would be God himself in human form.
