Prayer of the Day
Feast of Bl. Columba Marmion
October 3rd, 2015
The Jews are used to a punishing God. The Pharisees profess to be descendants of the pious Jews, the separated ones who must remain faithful to the Law or Torah, and the customs and traditions of the Elders which they follow. They are also expecting a Messiah who will come in judgement. In Jesus’ time people were preparing for this kind of Messiah who would separate good from the bad, reward the devotees and condemn the sinners. Jesus presents a different God, and Messiah. He is the God of love and salvation. He sends His Son, the Messiah, not to condemn people, but to save them out of His great love and mercy.
God of justice and mercy, may we always follow the path that leads to you. When we stray bring us back, that our hearts may be renewed, and our lives may honour you. Lord hear us. Amen
