Prayer of the Day

Feast of St. Agatha

February 5th, 2015
"“He called the twelve and he sent them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits.”" Mark 6 : 7

The disciples were sent out in pairs. Individually, they could have reached more areas of the country, but this was not Christ’s plan. One advantage of going out in twos was that they could strengthen and encourage each other, especially when they encountered rejection. Our strength comes from God, but he meets many of our needs through our teamwork with others. As we serve Christ, we must not try to go it alone. Mark records that the disciples were instructed to take nothing with them except a staff, i.e. a shepherd’s crook, trusting in God’s care rather than in their own resources.

Prayer Lord, help me to recognise your power at work in the people among whom I live and work. Amen
