Prayer of the Day
Feast of St. Augustine Zhao Rong and Companions
July 9th, 2014
The prophet Hosea says; “Israel was a luxuriant vine, yielding plenty of fruit. The richer his land became, the richer he made the sacred stones or altars.”(Hosea 10 : 1) This reminds us of Jesus words; “You cannot serve both God and Mammon.” A divided heart, attracted to material wealth and improvements distracts Christians from what God desires from his followers, the People of God. The rich young man knew God’s commandments. “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your mind, all your strength and your neighbour as yourself for the love of God.”
God was angry with the people of Israel for their insincere promises. Because the people did not keep their word there were many lawsuits. People break their promises, but God always keeps his. Are we keeping our promises? Are we true to God, to our families, to ourselves? If not ask God’s forgiveness and help to get back on track. Be careful about the promises you make, never make a promise you cannot keep.
