Prayer of the Day
Feast of St. Barnabas, ApostleJune 11th, 2016
“Whatever town or village you enter look for a worthy person in it, and stay there until you leave.” (Matthew 10 : 11) The Jews go on pilgrimage to Jerusalem on appointed festivals. The journey took days. This wasn’t much of a problem for the rich, but the poor either pitched tents by the wayside, or avail of the hospitality of the people. The Apostle must behave like a poor pilgrim, who is content with what the host offers. He is instructed to stay in one welcoming house until he leaves town. Clearly, Jesus defines the Apostle as a poor pilgrim who has to rely on God and neighbour.
Lord, we pray for Christians everywhere, and may all followers of Christ find unity in the desire to love and serve the Lord. Lord hear us. Amen
