Today when there is so much pressure put on spouses in marriage, those of us on the side-lines can be quick to advise and give direction. However Christ proposed total lifelong commitment from both spouses to the partner. This contrasted sharply with the previous law of Moses. The ideal of total commitment is difficult in today’s world where there is easier access to divorce laws and annulment.  Couples are advised to think long and hard before” taking the plunge” into marriage.  Co-habitation and promiscuity have lowered the moral standards everywhere, so it is difficult for couples to achieve Christian ideals.  We need to pray more for Christian families and their children,  to keep to their ideals and promises in marriage.
