Prayer of the Day

Feast of St. Blaise

February 3rd, 2014
"“As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed by demons begged him that he might be with him. But Jesus refused, and said to him, ‘Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and what mercy he has shown you.”" Mark 5 : 18

When the man who was possessed by evil spirits had been healed he wanted to follow Jesus, Jesus accepts his offer but sends him out as a missionary-disciple. He told this man to tell his friends about the miraculous healing. In this man who had been ‘possessed by evil spirit, Jesus saw a brother of good will and fervent enthusiasm. Most of the time Jesus urged those he had healed to keep quiet. Perhaps this may have been due to the fact that the demon-possessed man had been alone and unable to speak. Telling others what Jesus had done for him would prove that he was healed. Also, this was mainly a Gentile and pagan area, so Jesus was not expecting great crowds to follow him or religious leaders to hinder him. By sending the man away with the Good News, Jesus was expanding his ministry to people who were not Jews.

Prayer Lord, make me an instrument of your peace and comfort my heart with hope. Amen
