Prayer of the Day
Feast of St. Ciaran and Blessed Frederick Ozanam, co-founded the Society of St. Vincent de Paul
September 9th, 2014
“Jesus went into the hills to pray, and he spent the whole night in prayer to God. When the day came he summoned his disciples and picked out twelve whom he called ‘apostles ‘ Simon whom he called Peter, and his brother Andrew James John Philip Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon called the Zealot, Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot who became a traitor. ” (Luke 6 : 12 – 16)
Jesus ascends to a quiet place to pray to God in the choice of the twelve Apostles. For Luke ‘Twelve‘ is symbolic. In the Acts St. Paul mentions ‘the number must be complete.’ After the death of Judas Matthias was chosen to take Judas’ place. With the coming of the Holy Spirit, the Twelve were present to go out and preach the Word of God, to continue Jesus’ mission.
