Prayer of the Day

Feast of St. Declan & St. Sharbel Makhluf

July 24th, 2015
"The one who received the seed in rich soil is the person who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty and in another thirty." Matthew 13 : 23

The parable of the sower is explained by the quality of the soil which receives the seed. The four types of soil in the Gospel represent different responses to God’s message. People respond differently, because they are in different states of readiness. Some are hardened, like the soil that had no moisture. Others are shallow, lacking depth.  Others are contaminated by distracting worries, and some are receptive. We could ask ourselves, ‘How has God’s word taken root in our lives? What kind of soil are we?’

Prayer

Lord, help me to respond to your word as it comes to me each day – in the Bible and in the circumstances of my life. Amen
