Prayer of the Day

Feast of St. John, Apostle and Evangelist

December 27th, 2013
""So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved."" John 20 : 2

The empty tomb challenged John and all after him to take their faith in Jesus Christ to another level.   St. John responded to the Resurrection by sharing his story,  the Gospel we inherit to-day that bears his name.   Here after the Resurrection John finds an empty tomb,  sees the burial clothes,  and begins to see the meaning of what Jesus has said and done.  John’s faith is still imperfect because its fullness will come only with the gift of the Holy Spirit.  But because the beloved disciple has been close to Jesus,  he is more open then even Peter to believe in the Risen Lord.

Prayer May we imitate St. John in his love and faithfulness, and be a source of the Gospel for those around us. We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen
