Prayer of the Day
Feast of St. John EudesAugust 19th, 2014
The rich man could possibly be admitted to heaven though with difficulty. But bear in mind how Jewish folk express themselves through an impressive image, and also consider the whole context of Jesus’ message. For human beings this is impossible, (v.26) sums up the whole thing. Contrary to popular thinking being is not linked to salvation nor is it necessary a sign of God’s favour. It can be a mark of selfishness. Jesus says that the disciple must give up everything for the sake of his name. It has been said that when one renounces wealth for the sake of the Gospel one becomes rich, and when one renounces the Gospel for the sake of wealth, one becomes poor and sad.
