Prayer of the Day
Feast of St. Laurence O’Toole, Bishop
November 14th, 2016
There is a charismatic hymn which invites us to ‘Reach out and touch the Lord as He goes by.’ However, in order to do that we’d need to have eyes of faith to recognise the Lord and then we’d need to have a strong desire to encounter Him. The blind beggar in today’s Gospel was certainly blessed with these dispositions. His desire to meet Jesus was so great that nothing could stop him calling out at the top of his voice when he heard that Jesus was passing by. And his faith was evident in his fervent prayer; ‘Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me.’ Our Lord , of course, responded to this man’s faith and longing to have his sight restored. And Bartimaeus showed his gratitude as he praised God and joined Jesus and his followers on the way to Jerusalem.
"Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me." Amen (Luke 18 : 39)
