Prayer of the Day
Feast of St. Maelruain, Bishop & Abbot
July 7th, 2015
The Good Shepherd is the symbol of the ideal Jewish leaders, and these include the high priest, chief priests, Pharisees, Sadducees and officials of the Synagogue. Why then does Jesus say that the people are like sheep without a shepherd. In the Gospel passage alone the people flock to Jesus just to see what He does. He goes around to all the towns and villages, teaching, expels demons, cures people from diseases and illnesses and proclaims the Gospel of the Kingdom. The Pharisees can not compare with Jesus. They cannot do what he does, and all they do is to criticise Him, and see evil in good.
God of healing, grant us a heart big enough that we care for people as Jesus did, doing everything in our power to improve the lives of those around us. We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen
