Prayer of the Day

Feast of St. Martha

July 29th, 2015
"Martha, Martha, you worry and fret about so many things." Luke 10 : 41
Mary-Martha-Lazarus1.jpg

“Jesus came to a village, and a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. She had a sister called Mary, who sat down at the Lord’s feet and listened to him speaking.  Now Martha, who was distracted with all the serving said, ‘Lord do you not see that my sister is leaving me to do all the serving by myself?  Please tell her to help me.’  But the lord answered: ‘Martha,  Martha,’  he said   ‘you worry and fret about so many things, and yet few are needed, indeed only one.  It is Mary who has chosen the better part, it is not to be taken from her.’” (Luke 10 : 38 – 42)

The welcome is the emphasis in this Lucan section. Martha is very busy preparing and serving the meal. Request, ‘Lord do you not see that my sister is leaving me to do all the serving?’  But the Lord answered: ‘Martha, Martha, you worry and fret about so many things yet few are needed, indeed only one. It is Mary who has chosen the better part it is not to be taken from her.’

Jesus is the welcomed guest, from the request he is very sensitive, Martha is doing all the work. His reply is, few things are needed indeed only one. Mary stays and listens. She has chosen the better part,’ it is not to be taken from her.

Prayer
