Prayer of the Day

Feast of St. Mary Magdalene

July 22nd, 2016
"It was very early on the first day of the week." John 20 : 1

Mary Magdalene had spent time on the way to Calvary and remained at the foot of the Cross. She is broken hearted at what has happened to Jesus and hurries to the tomb of Jesus at sunrise.  Seeing the stone rolled away she is even nore worried. Angels tell her the truth. And also sees someone she feels she does not know but as soon as he utters her name she knows it is Jesus himself, from which incident she has been described as ‘the Apostle to the Apostles.’    The Gospels give no warrant for identifying her with the woman who was a sinner who anointed Christ’s feet (Luke 7 : 37) or with Mary,  the sister of Martha, who also anointed Him. (John 12 : 3)

Jesus help us to believe in your resurrection. Give me the joy of Mary Magdalene and let me radiate that joy so that you may be more reverenced and believed in. Today’s world has its own agenda, open it up to the joy of your Resurrection. Give us the faith of Mary Magdalene on that wondrous early morning meeting she had with you. Amen
