""The kingdom of Heaven is close at hand."" Matthew 4 : 17
Word-of-God.jpeg

The first words spoken by Jesus in today’s Gospel (Matt 4: 12-17, 23-25) are “Repent, for the kingdom of Heaven is close at hand.”  In this way he was echoing the words of John the Baptist.  Jesus was and is telling us about God’s dream for the world.  This dream requires our co-operation.  Page after page of the Gospels reveal how this dream can be made a reality if only we could learn to love one another in the way outlined by St. Paul in his letter to the Corinthians: “love is patient and kind; it is never jealous; love is never boastful or conceited; it is never rude or selfish; it does not take offence and it is not resentful. … It is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope and to endure whatever comes” (1 Cor. 13: 4-12).

Prayer Lord Jesus help us to make your dream for the world come true. Help us to overcome our selfishness and learn to love as you did "since God is love and anyone who lives in love lives in God and God lives in them." (1 John 4: 7) Amen
