Prayer of the Day
Feast of St. Richard of Chichester
June 16th, 2015
In our 1st reading today, ( 2 Cor. 8. 1-9 ), St. Paul speaks of the need to be generous, even when one has little to give—it means far more in God’s sight.
The call to be perfect issued by Christ is a difficult one. The original Hebrew word meant “whole” or ”integral.” We are to show the same respect and to value each person not according to our likes/dislikes, but because we are all sons/ daughters of God. As God permits sunshine& rain to fall on everyone irrespectively , so we are called to treat each one in a dispassionate way. Can we love others and treat others well unconditionally, without expecting a reward or feedback? Even the willingness to do so is a step in the right direction. If Mandela could say to his former captives: “Let bygones be bygones,” then why cannot we have the same mentality?
