Prayer of the Day

Feast of St. Simon & St. Jude

October 28th, 2015
"Jesus spent the night in prayer to God." Luke 6 : 12

Jesus spent the night praying to his Father before he chose the twelve Apostles.  Today,  we celebrate the feast of two of these special and anointed men,  Saints Simon and Jude.  Simon is refereed to as Simon the zealot,  and Jude as the son of James or Thaddeus.  Very little is known of these two Apostles.  One tradition has it that they went together as missionaries to Persia and were martyred there.  Major decisions require much prayer. Prayer helps us to see and understand things differently.  It gives us God’s wisdom and guidance so that our minds are not governed by our own views and prejudices.  Whatever happened to these two men,  they had the title ‘Apostle’ and were members of the most extraordinary band of brothers the world has ever known.  They transformed the world and were faithful bearers of the message of Christ.  We too,  like the Apostles,  have been sent out to preach the Gospel to those we encounter.  In his encyclicals, Pope Francis encourages us to respond to our vocation and call to be Apostles and preachers of the word of life.  May Saints Simon and Jude help us to witness the Gospel wherever we are.

Lord Jesus, the Apostles bore witness to your Resurrection. Make your Church strong in doing your will and sure in proclaiming the faith. Amen
