The story of St. Stephen in the Acts of the Apostles is very shocking and inspiring. It is a powerful witness of faith meeting the blind and the hateful persecution of his adversaries. In his life and death, St. Stephen imitates Christ, even as he utters his last words; “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” Like our Saviour, Stephen, refuses to let the darkness of the world overcome his strong faith. He shines the light of Christ into the world by his sure and faithful witness of faith.
Prayer
God of courage, we honour St. Stephen as the first to follow your Son from death into eternal life by way of martyrdom. Lord hear us. Amen
