Prayer of the Day

Feast of St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein)

August 9th, 2016
"Whoever humbles themselves like this little child will be the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven, Whoever receives such a child in my name receives Me. " Matthew 18 : 5
light-of-the-world1

This answer by Christ was to the question ..”Who is the greatest in the Kingdom Of Heaven?”……(Matthew 8 : 1) What a totally unexpected answer the querulous Apostles received. The mark of greatness will not be great accomplishments or even great holiness or wholeness, but the extent to which we are utterly dependent on a loving God. This aspect of spirituality was in marked contrast to all the great expectations of grace and favour from God by Jesus’s  associates. True grace was to be seen in the eyes and demeanour of a powerless child totally at one with its parental care and love. The Holy Family mirrored this awareness of total dependency and trust in the loving Fatherhood of God, in their journeying , their working,  and their lives together as a caring and loving family.

Prayer

Lord, give us a true dependence on your loving Providence in everything; let us be open to your Holy Spirit while relying on your beneficial help. Amen
