Prayer of the Day
Feast of St. Willibrord
November 7th, 2014
The prudence about which the Lord talks, refers to the kind of relationship in existence among the children of the world. They are not bound by morality. There is no such thing as respect for the other person. The phrase “Law of the Jungle” best describes this kind of relationship. Christ’s followers are somewhat disadvantaged because He tells them to be “shrewd as serpents and simple as doves.”
Innocence does not always save a Christian from wicked persons who want to suppress Him. “Cast your care upon the Lord, who will give you support.” God will not allow anyone to stumble. But you, God, will bring them down to the pit of destruction. The psalmist describes well the fate that awaits the worldly who pursue their ambitions through deceit and cruelty. He reminds us at the same time that God will not abandon the righteous.
