Prayer of the Day

Feast of the Nativity of Our Blessed Virgin Mary

September 8th, 2015
"A virgin will give birth to a son and they will call him Emmanuel—which means 'God with us.'" Matthew 1 : 23

After the sequence of the genealogy of Jesus, we read the earth-shattering statement above of what God is going to do in the lives of mankind. Nothing before that or since has ever equalled that event. Do we ever stop to consider if the Virgin Mary had said “No” — what would have happened, or rather what wouldn’t have happened ? Humanity and Divinity were united once and for all in her sacred womb through a grace –filled moment of the Holy Spirit. She accepted her task of fulfilling a role in God’s plan for humankind—at the cost of her life and love. Nobody explained to her what was going to happen; we can only imagine her fear and dread of her situation as an unmarried mother – yet she accepted .

On this feast we pray to Our Blessed Mother to help us to reflect more deeply on our choices that they might be life-giving and life- enhancing to others, & we thank her for her generosity in the acceptance of the Will of God in her life. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Amen
