Prayer of the Day

Feast of The Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

November 21st, 2015
"You have been blessed O Virgin Mary above all other women on earth by the Lord most high God, he had so exalted your name that your praises shall never fade from the mouths of men." Antiphon

To-day’s feast day symbolises the presentation of the Blessed Virgin’s life to God.  This feast has been kept in the Church since the eight century.

“Mary,  seat of Wisdom,  the Lord created me when his purpose first unfolded,  before the oldest of his works.  From everlasting I was firmly set.” (Proverbs 8 : 22)  There are readings in the Old Testament from prophecy’s in Ecclesiastes,  Micah, Zechariah about Mary; foretelling a Virgin who would give birth to Jesus the Son of God.  St. Luke’s Gospel tells the story of the Annunciation. “Hail Mary,  full of grace the Lord is with thee,  blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.” (Luke 1 : 43)

We pray: Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of death. Amen
