Prayer of the Day
Fifth Sunday of LentMarch 13th, 2016
Today’s Gospel (John 8 : 1 – 11) is about the woman the Scribes and Pharisees bring to Jesus to condemn. The Scribes and Pharisees are condemning a woman caught in the act of adultery with all the severity of the Jewish Law. By His gesture Jesus refers them to the judgement of God. The accusers are all fit to be written in the earth. Jesus’ accusers are unimpressed by Jesus’ gesture and so He speaks to them; ‘Let one among you who is without sin be the first to throw the stone at her.’ He bends down once more and writes on the ground with His fingers. Despite what they say the accusers finally give up. They have no choice but to admit their sinfulness before God.
May the light of Christ show us the path to Hope and Healing. Amen
