"Never before has anyone spoke like this one." John 7 : 46

The guards sent by the chief priests and Pharisees fail to arrest Jesus.  Perhaps they think the possibility that Jesus is the Messiah.  The Pharisees’ reply,  reflects their stubborn refusal to examine the case anew.  They deny themselves the opportunity to see Jesus in a better light.  No new evidence can make them give up the notion that Jesus cannot be the Messiah.  They appeal to their own authority and claim that they know the truth.  They laugh at the crowds who they claim are easily deceived.  Their intention is to condemn Jesus.  The Pharisees do not have the slightest hint that by refusing to see the truth that Jesus proclaims,  they put themselves under judgement.

Prayer

Lord, grant us the faith to discern your word, and the courage to follow its call. Lord hear us. Amen
