Prayer of the Day
Fifth Week of Lent – Feast of St. Cyril of Jerusalem, Bishop & Doctor of the Church
March 18th, 2016
Today’s Gospel is about Jesus being rejected by the Jews. “We are not stoning you for a good work but for blasphemy. You, a man, are making yourself God.” (John 10 : 31 – 42) Although the Jews do not believe Jesus’ claim that He is the Messiah they are not seeking his death because of it. They believe that the messiah is a special person but he will not be equal to God. They seek to kill Jesus because of his blasphemous words. Here John states what blasphemy really is – Jesus makes Himself God or equal to God. The believer will not deny Jesus’ claim. he is both Messiah and God. The Jews err in saying that Jesus makes Himself God. Jesus is not a man who makes Himself God, but God who has become man, and everything that John said about this man was true.
O God of truth, give us the courage to set our hearts on you, in the midst of chaos and tension. Lord hear us. Amen
