Prayer of the Day
First Week of Advent – Feast of St. Nicholas, BishopDecember 6th, 2014
We read in today’s Gospel that Jesus had compassion on the helpless crowd that followed him. They reminded him of sheep without a shepherd. Jesus saw the overwhelming need of the people, and he knew he could not do it alone. He therefore empowered his disciples to replicate what he had been doing and entrusted them with responsibilities that would amplify his reach to people in need. Each morning, the prayer of the Church begins with Psalm 94. one of the verses of the Psalm reads; “Come in, let us bow and bend low, let us kneel before the God who made us.” While the Lord personally exercises his role as shepherd over each of our lives, he has also chosen disciples. We are all called to labour in the harvest field and to be witnesses of joy, hope and happiness. Pope John Paul II, prophet and visionary, that he was, understood how powerful and effective lay witness is in winning the world for Christ. Continuing the work of Christ is proof of our following him.
