Prayer of the Day

Friday After Epiphany

January 8th, 2016
"Jesus saw a large crowd and he took pity on them. " Mark 6 : 34

Jesus looked at the crowd and he felt sorry for them. He saw before him troubled people living a life without meaning or purpose, so different from what divine love intended for them. The sickness he encountered all around him, the mental disturbance, the unhappiness, pierced his heart. Time was forgotten as he tried to tell them how to live in God’s loving embrace. Having filled their spiritual needs Jesus showed them God’s bounty by feeding their physical hunger. That day he fed five thousand from five loaves and two fish. Today Jesus looks with pity on us as we go about filled with anxiety, fears and feelings of meaninglessness. He wants us to live joyfully in the loving embrace of God trusting in his mercy and forgiveness. To help us he has given us himself in the Eucharist as food for our journey.

Heavenly Father we thank you for the gift of your Son, Jesus, in the Eucharist. Amen
