Prayer of the Day

Second Sunday of Easter – Divine Mercy Sunday

April 12th, 2015
""Jesus came and stood among them and said; 'Peace be with you.'"" John 20 : 19

On the evening of the first day of the week,  when the doors were shut where the disciples were for fear of the Jews.  Recalling the events of the past few days they remember how they fled when Jesus was arrested,  how Peter denied Him three times,  how their faith failed,  and how Judas hanged himself in despair.  Suddenly Jesus appears to the fearful disciples.  Three times Jesus wishes the disciples Peace.  His greeting tells them that they are forgiven and that He is glad to see them.  The Risen Lord’s greeting brings peace,  joy and reconciliation.  But Jesus does not stop at forgiving the disciples.  He breathes on them the Holy Spirit and empowers them to be channels of His forgiving love.

Prayer O Lord, may our fears, doubts and questions never succeed to prevent us from the love of God. We pray for all those struggling with doubt, may the Holy Spirit assure them that Divine love is always greater than those unsettling questions. Lord hear us. Amen
