""The father caught sight of him and was moved with compassion."" Luke 15 : 20

Jesus tells the parable of the Lost Son in response to the complaint of the Scribes and Pharisees about his dealings with tax collectors and sinners.  The loving father in the parable symbolises God Himself.  The Fathers’ unconditional love and mercy are extended not only towards the younger son,  the repentant sinner,  but also towards the elder son,  who is only too ready to judge his brother.  It is Luke who stresses God’s willingness to accept repentant sinners,  into the Kingdom,  preached by Jesus.  The Son of man comes to seek and save what is lost.  He will not be deterred from his mission by people who refuse to accept in joy and love those who repent upon hearing the proclamation of God’s Kingdom.

Prayer Lord, make us more sensitive, helpful and caring to be a good Samaritan to those in desperate need. Lord hear us. Amen
