Second Week of Lent
February 24th, 2016
"Promise my two sons that they will sit at your right and left in your Kingdom. "
Matthew 20 : 21
Which mother does not want the best for her children? She overheard the word “Kingdom” and she immediately exacted a promise from Jesus for their promotion. But Jesus turned the tables with a request for them….. “Can you drink the chalice ….” to which they naively replied; “We can.” (We must remember here that James was one of the first martyrs….). Admittance to Jesus’s Kingdom is equivalent to service of others. It is not an easy price to pay nor an easy option—to give one’s life as a ransom for many. Again the primacy of service as an essential quality for fellowship with Christ.
Prayer
We pray for a spirit of generosity and service to others particularly to those most in need of our help. Amen
