Prayer of the Day

Second Week of Lent – Feast of St. Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows

February 27th, 2016
"While he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was moved with pity." Luke 15 : 20
Prodical Sone

In this well-loved parable Luke tells us the story of the wayward son who returns home sorrowfully to his father who absolves and welcomes him like a celebrity, much to the annoyance and chagrin of the older, dutiful one. We glimpse a picture of the Mercy of God Our Father, who  shows us that he does not bear grudges, cannot  hold us to ransom, pardons all our faults and loves us like a doting parent. In contrast, the well-behaved one acts as a backdrop almost to the real action of the story. Always we need to trust God as our loving parent, and be ready to turn to him in any kind of need.

In this year of Mercy we pray to the Lord for all who ask Him and us for mercy. We ask that we may practise the works of mercy which are so necessary for Christian living, and that others may see in us a reflection of the merciful face of Jesus. Amen
