Prayer of the Day
Sixth Week of Easter – Feast of St. Pancras, MartyrMay 12th, 2015
In his farewell discourse to his disciples, Jesus looks ahead and speaks of his departure and the coming of the Advocate. They were stricken with grief, but the fulfilment of these words would bring everlasting joy and hope to the world. God is love, and love is his first gift, containing all the others. Because we are wounded by sin, the first effect of the gift of love is the forgiveness of our sins. With courage we pray to the Holy Spirit that he will lead and guide us in the path of holiness. In humility, we acknowledge our need of his grace, and in faith we proclaim our conviction that it is by the grace of the Holy Spirit that the face of the earth is renewed.
Saint Pancras, whose feast we celebrate today, was a boy of fourteen who was martyred in Rome in 304.
