Prayer of the Day

Third Sunday of Easter

May 4th, 2014
""Cry out with joy all the earth, sing the glory of his name."" Antiphon : Psalm 65 v.1

The Gospel to-day is all about Jesus’ encounter with his disciples going to a town called Emmaus.   They come to Easter faith gradually by acknowledging the hungers of their hearts.  Their response to Jesus the companion they did not recognise when he asked; “What things?”   “All about Jesus of Nazareth” they replied; “who was a great prophet by the things he said and did among the people.”  They just told Jesus their story of how they saw the events of Jesus’  Passion and Death.  “Our own hope had been that he would be the one to set Israel free.”

By searching the Scriptures  “our hearts were burning within us”  by holding on to the story of the first disciples and witness of the women,  by the Eucharist “the breaking of the bread” and by sharing our faith “they told their story.”  Is there more?   As the story starts he stops them.   Towards the end of the story,  they stop him from walking out of their lives,  perhaps forever.   The moment of divine truth,  desire leads to the moment of recognition and a life changing encounter.

Prayer Jesus our companion on the road, we believe and we know you are with us on the way even when we are not aware of it and cannot feel it. You listen to us. Amen
