Saul persecuted the Church in Jerusalem dragging men and women from their homes and throwing them into prison because they believed in Jesus Christ. Now, he is the one who in the providence of God is to become the Apostle of the Gentiles. It was he who held the garments of those who stoned Stephen. As the Psalmist says; “Who has known the mind of the Lord or who has ever been his Counsellor?” God brings good out of evil. It was Saul, now called Paul, who spread Christianity beyond the confines of Israel, otherwise it might have remained a Jewish religious sect.
From the very beginning the Church has been persecuted and will probably till the end of time. After all we are followers of a crucified God. To-day, there is fierce persecution of Christians in Asia and Africa as we are all aware. We are living in a broken world which only God can fix for “nothing is impossible to God.” So, let us pray:-
