Prayer of the Day

Third Week of Easter – Feast of Blessed Edmund Rice, Religious

May 5th, 2017

“This is the bread that came down from heaven,  not like that which your ancestors ate,  and they died.  But the one who eats this bread will live forever.” (John 6 : 58)

We should all be a little bit overwhelmed by the mystery that through this Sacrament we live in you and you live in us.   We should even be more awed when you tell us that this mutual indwelling of ours mirrors exactly the intimate relationship between You and your Father!

Blessed Edmund Rice (1762-1844) came from Callan, Co. Kilkenny.  After his young wife’s early death, he sold his possessions and dedicated his life to the education of the poor.  He gathered like minded men who took religious vows together to work for the Catholic education of boys.
