Prayer of the Day
Twelfth Week in Ordinary Time
June 23rd, 2014
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘’Do not judge and you will not be judged; the judgements you give are the judgements you will receive, and the amount you measure out is the amount you will be given. Why do observe the splinter in your brother’s eye and never notice the plank in your own? Hypocrite! Take the plank out of your own eye first, then you will see clearly to take the splinter out of your brother’s eye.’’
‘’ Judge not that you may not be judged.’’ There is here the freedom, freeing us from judgement, though not from all judgement. As adults we have the obligation to discern, judging in the right way, this is our duty. Jesus’ teaching cautions us against usurping God’s definite judgement who alone sees the heart. This section of the Gospel sets before binding obligations. To ‘listen’ and in prayer, the question, where is God in this situation?
