Advent

“And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse and a branch out of his roots; and the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him.”
Isaiah 11 : 1

The symbol of the Jesse Tree comes from this passage in the Book of Isaiah.   Each branch,  each leaf is the story rooted in Scripture that tells the relationship between God and God’s people.   The symbols on the Jesse Tree represent the Bibilical family tree and christ is grafted into the family tree of Jesse the father of David.   There is a symbol for every day in Advent.   There are nineteen reflections taken from the Old Testament and five taken from the New Testament.

Christian families like to prepare for Christmas by setting a suitable time aside everyday in the Advent time for a reflection on the Scripture and place a symbol on the branches of a leafless shrub.
