“Whatever you ask for in my name I will do.”
Jn 14: 14
At first glance this promise is very comforting. Whatever I ask … all my troubles will be over! Yet it does not work out that way. After all, I do not know that what I am asking is going to solve my problem or meet my own desires; my request is based on what I want, what I think I need. How do I know that this is for my good? I have only my own selfish desires prompting me.
No, whatever I ask Jesus to do, he will ask the Father who knows what my needs really are, who knows the plans he has for me and who will keep me safe, and then he will answer my prayer in the way he knows best.
