Prayer of the Day

Feast of St. Thomas Aquinas, Priest and Doctor of the Church

January 28th, 2015
""Imagine a sower going out to sow seeds. Some fell on the path, some fell among thorns and some among rocks."" Mark 4 : 3

This is the parable of the sower.  One wonders what kind of farmer would be strewing precious seeds among thorns and on rocks and pathways?  However, it is God who is the sower here and the seed is his Word.  It is faith that he sows in our hearts.  Some accept it lovingly.  To them it is a living word to be shared with others.  The seed that fell on paths and rocks had no soil to support it.  Those are people who have no roots and fall away in times of difficulties or persecutions.  The choice is always ours to accept the faith or reject it.  God never forces us.  To be genuine followers of the Word,  we need to be open to it and to cherish it in our hearts.  St. John tells us in his Gospel that; “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was God.”  (John 1 : 1)   In to-day’s secular world we meet with many obstacles challenging our faith.  Ambition,  greed,  hunger for power,  riches,  possessions,  are some of the rocks and thorns that prevent us from even hearing God’s Word.  The decision to accept or reject the Word is ours to make.  Whose side are we on?   God is challenging us.  Perseverance is needed if like the wise men we are going to follow our star into the Heavenly Kingdom God has prepared for us, for those who follow Him.

Prayer Let us pray: Thank you Lord for the faith you have sown in our hearts. Throughout our lives, may we always hunger and thirst for you. Amen
